Finding non-British Subjects in Queensland records

Saturday 2nd August 2025, 09:00-11:00
Genealogical Society of Queensland, Australia - via ZOOM
Genealogical Society of Queensland

Do you have ancestors from outside the British Isles who were not British Subjects? Even prior to Federation, non-British subjects were subjected to a raft of restrictions which generated genealogical valuable records. This surveillance accelerated after 1901 and during the two World Wars when their movements were closely tracked. As non-British Subjects did not appear on the electoral roll, it is these alternate records which may help you place your ancestors in the absence of census returns. This session will be of interest for anyone who had an ancestor in Queensland for whom naturalisation was not an option.

Presenter: Hilda Maclean
