Did you know the Huguenot Museum is situated in Rochester, or that the French Church still flourishes in the undercroft of Canterbury Cathedral? Before the arrival of the Huguenots in Kent in the 17th century, came fellow-protestant Walloons fleeing persecution at home.
This is the first of a two-part illustrated talk unveiling the lives of the Protestant Calvinist refugees from the low countries and France who were welcomed into Britain initially by Elizabeth I in the 16th century, and revealing the socio-economic impact they had on the count
Sandra Robinson is a UK-based genealogist who specialises in Huguenot ancestry. She speaks French, Dutch/Flemish and German, having lived in The Netherlands and Belgium, including working in these languages.
Sandra has served on the Council of the Huguenot Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and is consultant genealogist to the Huguenot Museum in Rochester, UK. She was the Huguenot ancestry expert for the BBC's "Who Do You Think You Are?" TV episode with Joe Sugg. Sandra works for private clients and publishes articles on Huguenots for a range of journals, often co-authored with art historians or other subject specialists.
