The talk will firstly look at examples from her collection of documents covering Pre-1834 Poor Law Documents (Settlement Certificate & Overseers Accounts), Poor Law Union Records (Minute Books & Workhouse Records) & Hampshire County Asylum Records. It will not only cover what can be discovered about a poor person mentioned in the documents but also point out areas where useful information can be found about other people mentioned in them, an area often overlooked. It will finish up with a post 1834 Case Study for a young lady whose existence seems to have been forgotten over time. After chatting with a grandson of her sister it was discovered that she appears to have not been mentioned in the family.
Julie holds the IHGS Higher Certificate & is currently undertaking the IHGS Diploma. She is an AGRA Associate, Genealogist and Local Historian with a particular interest in the poor of the parish of St Mary Bourne, Hampshire where her One-Place Study is.
