IHGS Zoom Tutorial - Treasures of the Parish Chest with Judith Batchelor

Thursday 29th January 2026, 12:00-14:00
Online

A fascinating range of documents were once kept in a locked chest in every parish church. Tucked away for safekeeping were minutes of meetings held by parish officials, rate books, accounts, settlement and bastardy papers, apprenticeship indentures, charity deeds and church seating plans. In this tutorial, we will be looking at how these incredible records can provide valuable clues about the identity of one's ancestors and paint a picture of their every-day lives in their local communities.

Our online tutorials provide guidance on a broad range of topics. They are open to everyone.

The tutorial costs £10 per booking, and can be booked using the following link: https://www.ihgs.ac.uk/tutorial-treasures-of-the-parish-chest-with-judith-batchelor-29th-january-12pm-740
