Dorset Family History Society is hosting a Zoom Meeting on Tuesday 27th October 2026 with KAREN DE BRUYNE talking on 'MY COUSIN SOPHIA - FROM EXETER TO EDINBURGH VIA INDIA, AND THE SUSPECT FAMILY SHE MARRIED INTO!'.

Karen de Bruyne is a professional genealogist with a Post Graduate Diploma in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies. She is a Research agent at the British Library’s Asia and Africa Reading room for family history and has over 25 years research experience from all around the world, specialising in London families and those who passed through British India and the Far East and Dutch Indies.
Most recently Karen has worked on establishing a possible Huguenot descendant and 4 generations of Scottish fishermen and soldiers, has found what happened to a long lost great aunt and established contact with long lost family whose ancestor had changed name.
This talk is about her cousin Sophia, a Devon farmer’s daughter who went to an Edinburgh Mental asylum via India.

This request should reach us at least 6 hours before the meeting is due to start, and the link will be sent about 2 hours before the meeting starts. Log in is from 7.15pm.
We charge £3 per person after they have attended a meeting, payable on the Society’s shop on the website www.dorsetfhs.org.uk
