Learn all about Pye, Cambridge’s biggest employer for much of the 20th century.

Through slides and video clips, we tell the story of how from humble beginnings in a garden shed in 1896, Pye grew to become Cambridge’s biggest employer for much of the 20th century. At its peak, it employed over 7000 staff in the Cambridge area and over 30,000 worldwide. It created many companies designing and manufacturing a wide range of products, though it is probably best known for its TV and Radio products. Inspired by its long term leader, Charles Stanley, its innovators created many ground breaking products which were sold across the world.

We follow its rise to pre-eminence and its takeover in 1967,  its subsequent decline  and finally its disappearance by 2000.
